When it comes down to evaluating the impact of candles on cost, safety, health, and environmental concerns, we of course feel that our beeswax candles stand head and shoulder above other candles in the marketplace.
So, the questions are…
Are Beeswax Candles Safe?
Yes beeswax candles are, not just safe but are considered the safest wax options for burning indoors. Their high melting point leads to a hotter burn, yielding a brighter, more enduring flame.
Beeswax candles exhibit less soot when burnt which means your home will be cleaner too and they are brilliant for anyone with allergies or
asthma. Although it is stated that beeswax purifies the air when burnt, it has yet to be scientifically evidenced.
The beeswax candle does emit negative ions upon burning. Negative ions contribute to air purification and a reduction in airborne allergens, so it is believed beeswax candles do offer a cleaner air quality around them.
Are beeswax candles worth it?
Well of course you would expect us to say yes, but what must be understood at this point is the premium nature of beeswax means these candles often come with a higher price tag compared to other candle types. Only harvested by beekeepers as a byproduct of the hive. A colony must consume 5-8 kilos of honey to produce 1kilo of wax. To put in perspective in the lifetime of a honeybee, it will collect 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. This really does put the value of their wax into perspective.
What makes beeswax candles the most eco-friendly option?
Beeswax is a renewable and biodegradable resource. We only use wax that is no longer needed by the hive, wax that is removed as part of the honey production, or natural re-cycling of comb within the hive. The wax must be cleaned and filtered. We do this in two ways, either by using the power of the sun in a solar extractor, or by using sedimentary filtration where only hot water is used.
So Why Buy from Beeswax Alchemy?
We fully understand the beeswax candle journey from the hive to the home. The endeavours of the bees are just amazing. We are so in awe of the honeybee – the only insect that produces food for humans and to add to this produce beeswax as such an important by-product.
The process of making the beeswax candle takes patience and dedication. Hours of testing and burning to ensure we can make a candle fitting of this amazing beeswax. It is probably only right and proper that we respect this high value wax in this way and keep it pure and always 100% beeswax. Often a candle can be marketed as a "beeswax candle" as it meets the 51% beeswax content threshold, but it is important to look for other ingredients, as some makers may blend with paraffin or other substances to lower costs.
